Abstract:The Xinhua North Tower is located on the west bank of Zishui River in Beita Village, Shangmei Town, the northern suburb of Xinhua County,Loudi City, Hunan Province. In order to cooperate with the preparation of the "Xinhua North Tower Repair Project", we conducted a comprehensive survey on the architectural features of the Xinhua North Tower. On the basis of preliminary investigation and research, this article uses data analysis and literature verification methods to explore the origin of the construction of the North Tower, the structure of the tower body, the shape of the tower chamber, and decorative paintings. It reveals that the construction design of the North Tower is consistent with the principles of the North Tower gate described in literature and inscriptions. It confirms that the North Tower was designed and constructed using mathematical concepts such as the "Five Elements", "Eight Trigrams",and "Tai Chi", and enshrined various Taoist and Buddhist gods, Confucian sages, and decorated with traditional Chinese auspicious patterns and stories to express the theme of "water control", "maintaining peace in the area", and "blessing students in high school".
