Abstract:At present, there is no lack of research on traditional architecture in China, but the research perspective mostly lies in the architecture itself, and there is still little research on wooden tools. The creation of traditional Chinese wooden architecture requires various woodworking tools, among which the frame saw is an important tool for breaking wood. After the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the emergence of frame saws improved the efficiency of understanding wooden materials and to some extent influenced the craftsmanship and style of ancient architecture. Woodworking tools are mostly self-made by craftsmen. This article records the process of blacksmiths and carpenters making various components of frame saws, and summarizes the types of frame saws, saw tooth structures, and saw blade trimming techniques.
