Abstract:The Zen sect is one of the most important sects in Chinese Buddhism. As a special space for monks to understand Zen thoughts and practice Zen rites, Chantang plays an important role in Zen temple. The Spatial pattern of Chantang is deeply influenced by Zen rites. In Late Ming Dynasty, the new pattern of Chantang is formed because of a series of changes of Zen rites. The article will show the process of revival of Zen sect in late Ming Dynasty and analyze the relationship between new Chantang space pattern and changes of Zen rites through the case study of Shuang-Gui-Tang’s Chantang. At the end of this paper, the origin and development of the space pattern of Shuang-Gui-Tang’s Chantang will be discussed.
